Description
Solution for Insulated Glass Facades
One of the methods of connecting a point fixing (rotule) to insulated glass is installation through the inner pane of the glazing unit from the interior side of the building. This configuration protects structural components from weather exposure, increasing their durability and reliability.
Additionally, it simplifies installation and maintenance, as access to the fixings is possible from inside the building without interfering with the external façade surface.
This solution allows for maintaining a smooth and aesthetic glass surface, while the absence of holes in the outer pane eliminates the risk of leakage and improves the insulation performance of the glazing unit. It also reduces the impact of temperature differences on the glass–metal connection, minimizing the risk of stress and cracking. At the same time, interiors with visible point fixings gain a modern architectural character.
Structure of the Point Fixing System
1. Front Part of the Point Fixing
This element is installed in one of the glass panes before the insulating glass unit assembly process. The required characteristics include:
Tightness — ensured by the use of a double O-ring, a nylon sleeve, and silicone, preventing direct contact between glass and metal while providing cushioning and stress compensation.
Precision fit — the diameter of the hole in the glass should match the body with a tolerance not exceeding +0.5 mm.
Material durability — resistance to corrosion, fatigue, and ageing, ensuring long-term stability of the connection.
The material used for the point fixing (AISI 316 stainless steel) retains its mechanical properties throughout the entire façade service life, is resistant to moisture, UV radiation, and temperature changes, and is chemically neutral towards silicones and polymer materials used in sealing systems.
The construction of this part must not protrude beyond the outer glass surface to allow proper insulating glass unit assembly. The use of VSG/ESG type glass is recommended to ensure adequate mechanical strength and operational safety.
2. Fixing Body
This element connects the front part of the point fixing with the mounting rod. Inside the body there is a spherical joint that allows angular installation and reduces stresses generated in the glass during façade movement and operation.
A stainless steel pressure ring is screwed onto the body and separated from the glass by a plastic washer.
The function of this component is to press the front part of the point fixing against the glass; installation takes place after the insulating glass unit has been assembled.
3. Mounting Rod
This element has a spherical end on the glass side and is made of AISI 316 stainless steel.
The length and diameter of the rod are selected depending on the thickness of the insulating glass unit and the structural load requirements.
The rod transfers the main loads from the glass pane to the supporting structure and constitutes a key element of the entire fixing system.
The presented point fixing solution enables the design of modern façades with high aesthetic and functional value while ensuring durability and structural safety.
